A Visit to Honeywells

A Visit to Honeywells

Williams wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for our wonderful stockists across the UK. To launch our series of posts focusing on these stockists, we visited Honeywell’s Farm Shop in Woodplumpton, a few miles from our bakery in Preston. Honeywell’s was one of our very first stockists, and they still stock our biscuits and cakes today.

Honeywell’s began life in 1970 as a small farm and butchery founded by brothers John and Anthony Gornall. They started their business by selling home-reared pork from their garage, quickly moving the operation to their barn for extra space. Following continued success, the Gornalls eventually built their own farm shop on Eaves Lane, Woodplumpton.

Honeywell’s have since opened butcheries in Barton Grange Garden Centre near Garstang, Preston and Bents Garden Centre near Warrington.

We caught up with Sue Gornall, one of the directors and wife of Anthony, along with her daughter Liz, who works as a buyer and head of marketing.

Williams: How long have you worked here?
Sue: Since we started the business, in 1972!
Liz: I’ve been involved for as long as I can remember!

Williams: What’s your favourite part of the job?
Sue: It’s the people. I love chatting to customers, having a catch-up with our regulars, or welcoming new people into the shop who haven’t visited before. We always strive to make everyone welcome. The staff we have also make this such a great place to work, and we couldn’t manage without them!

What’s the ethos of Honeywell’s?
Sue: Primarily, it was always about selling meat from our own farm as well as neighbouring farms. We’re a big believer in sourcing our meat as locally as possible, from farms we know and trust. As we’ve grown, this ethos has translated into other lines we began sourcing. Again, for our cheeses, bakery products and other products, we’ve always made sure we continue to champion local produce from across Lancashire, promote local artisan businesses and build long lasting relationships with our suppliers.
